Record crowd attends Arts on the Hill III - event a resounding success

Three hundred people gathered over the weekend of October 14 for two nights of food and fine art. The event celebrated the third annual Arts on the Hill exhibit for artists with disabilities. The participating artists expressed themselves through many different mediums - sculpture, painting, photography, collage and jewelry.

This year’s event was held at the Liberty Memorial Museum for the first time. The location was perfect for the night’s activities, which, in addition to hors d’oeuvres and cocktails, included a live jazz duet. The museum also opened the Tower, on Friday, for special nighttime rides. The view of the Kansas City skyline from the Tower was truly amazing.

The Preview Party was held on Friday, October 14, and hosted the exhibit’s sponsors along with other invited guests. The Open House, held the following night, was a free event for the general public. Preview Party guests had the opportunity to buy raffle tickets and bid on silent auction items. Raffle items included a bronze sculpture, pearl necklace, replica Jackie Robinson jersey autographed by Buck O’Neil and a large vase made by one of the exhibiting artists. The silent auction included items made by Rehabilitation Institute board members and donated ceramics.

Arts on the Hill was made possible by a host of outstanding sponsors. Presenting Sponsors for the exhibit included Ameristar Cares, the Fahey Family Foundation and the Torosian Foundation.

This was the third and most successful exhibit, with over fifty percent of the art sold and generating net proceeds of $44,000 in support of the Institute’s medical rehabilitation and employment programs.

Mark your calendars for next year’s show, Friday, October 13, 2006. We’d love to see you there!
