Event Highlights
“A Day at the Lake:” Out
of the wheelchair and into the water
Crows Creek Landing on Smithville Lake provided a wonderful
setting for this year’s “A Day at the Lake”
held on July 18. “A Day at the Lake,” is
a water ski and water sports clinic for persons with
disabilities. Participants include individuals who have
experienced a spinal cord injury resulting in paralysis
and others with disabling conditions caused by traumatic
injuries or illnesses.
“A Day at the Lake” was started 9 years
ago by The Rehabilitation Institute of Kansas City to
help persons with disabilities and other members of
the community realize summer activities on the water
can be exciting as well as accessible,” says Dana
Chatlin, director of external affairs. “It also
allows participants to meet and interact with others
who have experienced life-altering situations.”
This year’s event was co-sponsored by The Rehabilitation
Institute of Kansas City and Kansas City Wheelchair
Bowling Association.
