Event Highlights
Arts on the Hill, Expressions of Triumph
A Resounding Success
On Thursday, September 4, 2003 nearly 300 guests
gathered at the historic Reiger Hotel Building for The
Institute’s first major fundraising event - Arts
on the Hill, a two-day art exhibit featuring the work
of professional and emerging artists with disabilities.
Guests at the preview party enjoyed a sumptuous buffet
prepared by Twenty-20 and were the first to see and
purchase the exhibited art. The exhibit was open to
the general public on Friday, September 5.
The exhibit featured 68 pieces of work created by twenty
artists with disabilities. The works included an eclectic
collection of photography, paintings, sculpture and
other forms of art. A distinguished jury comprised of
Julia Austin; Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City;
Kelly Keuhn, The Blue Gallery; Ken Stanford, artist;
and Robin Trafton, Commerce Bank.
In addition to works created by selected artists, members
of The Rehabilitation Institute of Kansas City Board
of Directors asked to create a piece of work that represented
their interpretation of our mission – Building
Brighter Futures. The created items were put on display
and up for silent auction during our preview party.
The board art with the highest bid was deemed “best
in show” and will be displayed on The Institute’s
annual holiday card.
Arts on the Hill netted $17,323 for our programs and
services. The following generous sponsors made this
incredible result possible:
