Our Rebuilding Lives: Restoring Hope campaign is our first major fundraising effort in more than 40 years.  Our goal is two-fold.  First, we want to strengthen our capacity to serve children and adults with disabilities by growing our financial reserves and endowment.  Second, we want to make changes to our facility and property that improve access, enhance our efficiency and offer the most advanced rehabilitation technology, techniques and settings available in Kansas City.

The $7,000,000 campaign will allow us to:

  • Expand our services to children with disabilities;
  • Create dedicated centers of excellence for traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and stroke rehabilitation;
  • Improve employment opportunities for the severely disabled;
  • Strengthen our capacity to serve; and
  • Enhance parking and access to our services.

We recognize that our plan is ambitious.  And, to accomplish our goals we have divided our effort into four phases:

Phase I

  • Establish a Sustainability Fund  (Goal $500,000 / Status  $524,000 Raised)

Phase II

  • Address Basic Needs (Goal $1,700,000)
  • Replace original windows, roof and heating and cooling system; upgrade computer technology; acquire property adjacent to our current employee parking lots; expand parking, relocate primary entrance from Baltimore to Main Street and improve exterior signage.

Phase III

  • Facility Renovations (Goal $3,300,000)
  • Reconfigure existing space on first floor to expand therapy gyms (pediatric and adult), create dedicated centers for brain injury, stroke and spinal cord injury rehabilitation.  Create dedicated space for vision therapy and driving evaluation and training services.  Expand adaptive exercise and wellness program services.  Create more private treatment rooms.  Install an indoor therapy pool.  Create an outdoor accessible playground. Relocate the sheltered workshops to a larger space.

Phase IV

  • Strengthen Endowment (Goal$1,500,000)
  • Earnings from our endowment will provide consistent underwriting support for charity care and critical services for which little or no reimbursement is available.  These include our Social Work Services, Driving Evaluation and Training Services, Adaptive Technology Services and School Transition Services.
