Our Driver’s Evaluation and Training Program provides individuals with disabilities and senior citizens the assistance they need to begin, or return to, safe driving.
The program provides a clinical and behind-the-wheel evaluation to assess if an individual has the cognitive, visual and physical capacity to drive safely. Prior to program admission, the participant must have a Learner’s Permit or a valid Driver’s License. A doctor’s prescription for services is also required.
Services Include:
-
Clinical and Behind-the-Wheel Driving Evaluations conducted by an occupational therapist specializing in driving rehabilitation.
-
Individualized behind-the-wheel instruction is provided by trained therapists and driving instructors. Instruction focuses on defensive driving and accident avoidance techniques to prepare individuals for all types of situations on the road.
Modified vans and cars with specialized equipment are used to provide comprehensive evaluation of people with significant physical disabilities. A detailed analysis is done to determine if any adaptive equipment and/or vehicle modifications are needed with referral services available if needed.
